Family in a family therapy session talking with their therapist

Family Therapy

Aimed at those moments when discomfort affects the dynamic of the home or settles in family bonds. A clinical space designed so that words circulate among the different generations, allowing roles to be reviewed, shared crises to be processed and new forms of bonding to be built.

How does it work?

Family therapy is not conceived as a space to point out culprits or impose a "should be" on the household dynamic. We start from the premise that when someone in the family suffers, that anguish ends up challenging all its members. Discomfort usually circulates below what is said, manifesting in tensions, silences, repetitions or symptoms that someone carries on behalf of the group. The clinical work consists of enabling a pause in the family routine so that words can circulate among the different generations. It is about fostering an encounter where the roles each one occupies —sometimes rigidly— and the mandates that, unknowingly, condition coexistence can be reviewed. By dismantling misunderstandings and holding shared crises, the family can build new, more flexible and less painful ways of relating.

What does it offer?

A neutral space where each member, regardless of age, has a place to be heard.
The possibility of reviewing family dynamics, allowing each member to understand their place and their responsibility in the bond with others.
An analytic mediation to process crisis situations (grief, changes in family structure, moves, growth crises).
The opportunity to turn conflict into a driver of change for a more habitable coexistence.

Frequently asked questions

Do all members always have to come?

The composition of the group in each session is decided according to the moment of the process and the needs of the family. Not everyone always needs to be there; sometimes clinical work requires subgroups (for example, only the parents, or parents and children) to work on specific topics.

Is it like a mediated conversation?

It is more than a conversation. The presence of the professional is not to arbitrate discussions, but to make what is silenced appear. We work with words, but also with the way things are said and the place each person allows themselves to occupy.

Does it work if there are very old conflicts?

Yes, the space allows reviewing family history and how past stories impact the present. The intention is that those threads, sometimes tangled by the years, can be ordered so they stop blocking the family’s present.
